Our pilgrimage to Dune Part II

We are massive Dune fans. As such, when Dune Part I came out, we decided the best way to transport a film into a total family experience, was to head up to London and watch it at the iMax. This we did, and seeing that film, the incredible cinematography, special affects and sweeping story, on that huge curving screen blew us away.

Now we have Dune Part II and there was no question we’d make a second family pilgrimage. Until the day before we thought we’d be missing James, who tried to put a brave face on missing out because of a school CCF expedition, but it was cancelled at the last minute.

Fate.

And so it was we made our way to town on the 08:48 from Newbury – Paddington armed to the teeth with Jelly Babies (for Eddie), Fruit Pastilles (Will and Eddie), Liquorice Allsorts (James, Eddie and I) and Fruit Jellies (All. But mostly me), toffee popcorn (Will and Eddie) and sweet/salty popcorn (James and I). Plus my newly acquired water bottle to combat all that salt and sugar. We took the tube to Temple and walked through a sunny but arcticly cold London, across Waterloo Bridge to the cinema to disappear into Dune; Fremen, Harkkonens, Attriedes and Shai Hulud.

The film was long, but it needed to be there was so much going on. The special effects were off the charts, and the sumptuous cinematography of the landscapes of Arrakis and Geidi Prime were spellbinding.

I’d watch it again in a heartbeat.

Alas today though it’s Sunday. And we’re not on Arrakis or Caladan, we’re on Planet Earth, where our small home in Donnington Square, is a sea of dog hair rather than sand. And our primary battle, is one involving getting teenage sons out of bed.

Time to get the hoover out. A crysknife is (literally) not going to cut it.
