Pho, Burrough Market, London

Stopped in at Pho after watching Dune II yesterday, it was late so we didn’t want to be traipsing around Burrough Market for ages trying to decide on a place to eat, and we also didn’t want to be stuck in a restaurant for hours because we needed to get home to the dog.

Pho was the perfect compromise. Vietmese street food served in an open plan informal space. Friendly staff had us seated and served with swift but friendly efficiency. William has a severe peanut allergy, so we always get a bit nervous when we’re trying new restaurants, particuarly when there’s high probability of peanuts featuring in many of the recipes. But the staff at Pho literally asked us if we had any allergies, immediately after greeting, and before seating so we had no need to worry on that score.

We shared crispy baby squid, crispy spring rolls and pork & lemongrass meatballs to start, all of which were perfectly cooked and served with a sweet chilli sauce (no satay, although that would have come if you didn’t have to worry about anaphylaxis).

For mains the boys had Vietnamese noodle soup: Pho, with brisket which was light, fresh and filling. Eddie had the wok fried noodles with beef and I had spicy chicken curry with broken rice. All washed down with ice cold Lao beer (or water, depending on your age).

All delicious and a great way to end a long, but epic day.
