On a cold, dark and wet day visiting Durham University, which James will not be going to for multiple reasons, but primarily having found out it has the dubious honour of being awarded the second worst nightclub in Europe accolade. Apparently it was subsequently upgraded to the worst nightclub in Europe after the original winner, in Bulgaria, burned to the ground.

However, when it came to a decent breakfast however, the Riverview Kitchen nailed it for us. Nestled right on the banks of the Wear it’s a stunning spot. We sat in the cosy orangery and were served almost instantly by friendly and helpful staff. After a stonking eggs benedict for me, and a stratospheric stack of pancakes with maple syrup and bacon for James, we set off for the Open Day full of sugar, carbs and bonhomie.

Alas Durham Uni didn’t live up to our expectations, but it’s safe to say our breakfast very much exceeded them.
