The Sun Hotel and Bar

We chose The Sun after a few pints in our local trying to decide where to stay after we dropped William off at Lancaster uni. The Sun was universally accepted to be the place to stay, not least because it had a brewery attached. A bit tired and emotional after the long drive up from Newbury and dropping Will off at his halls, The Sun was like walking into a warm hug. Friendly staff, a relaxed atmosphere, a row of Lancastrian beers…suddenly we felt better.

After a pint each of Lancaster Amber and a bag of crisps, we set off to explore. The Sun’s slap bang in the middle of the city, and in the next half hour we’d taken in the castle, walked round along the river, seen an ancient roman baths and looked across to the Lakes. It being a Sunday afternoon, it would have been rude not to have had the roast dinner, and this too, far exceeded our expectations. Yorkshires, check. Roasties, check. Beef perfectly tender, check. Veg al dente, check. And sticky toffee for pudding, check, check, check!

We slept like logs.

And got up to a fabulous full English (black puddings, check) that set us up for the drive home feeling rested, relaxed and already planning our next visit to Number One Son and The Sun. There is so much more to explore.

Excellent choice Will.
